Suzuki Unveils e VITARA: Its First Mass-Production Battery Electric Vehicle

Suzuki Motor Corporation has introduced the e VITARA, its first mass-produced battery electric vehicle (BEV), at an event in Milan, Italy. Production is set to start in spring 2025 at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India, with sales launching by summer 2025 in markets such as Europe, India, and Japan.

The e VITARA builds on the concept model eVX, showcased at India's Auto Expo in January 2023 and at Japan's Mobility Show in October. This model represents Suzuki’s first global strategic BEV, emphasizing an "Emotional Versatile Cruiser" theme. Key features include a high-tech, robust design, an electric 4WD system (ALLGRIP-e) for both off-road capability and dynamic performance, and Suzuki’s newly developed HEARTECT-e platform specifically designed for BEVs.

Key Highlights of the e VITARA

Advanced Design with SUV Strength
Reflecting the theme of "High-Tech & Adventure," the e VITARA blends the advanced feel of a BEV with the rugged nature of an SUV. The exterior boasts a long wheelbase and large tires, while the interior features an integrated display and sturdy panels that exude durability.

Efficient BEV Powertrain
Equipped with the eAxle—a combination of motor and inverter—and lithium iron-phosphate batteries, the e VITARA delivers quick acceleration from standstill and smooth power during high-speed overtaking, enhancing driving responsiveness.

ALLGRIP-e Electric 4WD System
ALLGRIP-e incorporates two independent eAxles (front and rear), enabling powerful, precise control. Trail mode adds extra capability by applying brakes to spinning tires, allowing for stable performance even on rough terrain.

HEARTECT-e Platform for BEVs
HEARTECT-e offers a lightweight build, high-voltage protection, and increased cabin space due to its compact underfloor design, allowing maximum battery capacity.

President Suzuki’s Statement

President Suzuki emphasized that the e VITARA’s development was a process of “repeated trial and error” aimed at delivering a practical and user-friendly BEV. This BEV launch marks a significant step toward Suzuki’s commitment to a carbon-neutral future, with plans to continue expanding its BEV lineup alongside hybrids and CNG options tailored to regional needs.
